and Communication Technologies for gender equality in Africa"
Launch
of a new virtual discussion forum, from the 28th February
to the end of March 2002
The
virtual discussion forum on the theme "ICT for gender equality
in Africa" will begin on the 28th January 2002 and will end
in March 2002. You can sign up now following the instructions
given below. This initiative is part of the "Joint Parenting
project: ICT supporting women's programmes for gender equality",
organised by ENDA (Dakar) with support from the Acacia Initiative
of the Research Centre for International Development (Ottawa).

The
virtual forum "ICT for gender equality in Africa" benefits
from the support of Oxfam America (Dakar) and a strategic
partnership with Dakar's UNIFEM-Bureau. Its aim is to bring
together people and organisations operating in French-speaking
Africa - and beyond - to promote gender equality, peace and
development in a virtual discussions space in order to:
- Bring to light the current need to apply international instruments
promoting gender equality, particularly in terms of parenting
rights, at a local level in French-speaking Africa;

Share information on the celebration of International Women's
Day in French-speaking Africa, the 8th March 2002, and
-
Spread information, experiences and strategies put into action
in the sub-region for promoting gender equality, based on
the use of Internet techniques.
Organising exchanges at the heart of the forum:

The forum will operate in French.

Access to the forum is open to everybody: to apply, please
see the instructions given below.

The debates will be structured by a themed discussion programme.
The content of each theme will be summarised in French and
English.

The forum will be supervised to lie within the rules of sociable
interaction adopted by the group.

The forum will be interactive: all members will be able to
get involved in the debates, provided that they keep within
the rules of sociable interaction accepted by the group.
