Themes and strategic guidelines

For over a quarter of a century enda has maintained the same hopes, the same essential goals - all the while continuing to expand and multiply, challenging itself and moving forward.

It's essential aim is still to fight for the disadvantaged, for women, for young people and children wherever they are in rural or urban areas. And, at the same time, to take part in the "battle of ideas": training, communication, research, reflection and motivation on a national and international level.

Recently enda has been committed to defining a communal vision, a group approach to run alongside the increasing autonomy and responsibilities of those who work in the organisation or with it.

The emphasis, therefore, is on the common denominator in the fight against poverty, for a civil society and sustainable development and also on the methods and means of action that are best suited for bringing these aims together - the way things are done is just as important as what actually gets done.

Putting these thoughts into practice has led to the creation of ten strategic guidlines, which serve as a permanent reference for everyone, stated in terms of the needs, the expectations and the actions of the people in each society and each community.

These guidelines are neither definitive nor fixed, in fact they are characterised by their flexibility and can easily be replaced by other action guidelines if needs be. Their wording authorises and encourages transferability and cross-disciplinary synergy.
